Mr. Mohamed Saif Bin Shafar is Chairman of the Board and one of ASGC’s founders. He is a retired Major General of the UAE Armed Forces and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master degree in Military Science.
In the 1980s, Mr. Mohamed Saif Bin Shafar envisioned a construction company that could support the UAE’s ambitious development agenda. An important part of his vision was a vertically integrated construction group that could handle all aspects of construction including MEP, steel, joinery, ready-mix concrete and pre-cast elements.
Over the years, the Chairman’s vision has been realised and ASGC is now amongst the most recognized construction groups in the UAE.
Emad Azmy President and Vice Chairman of the Board Director
Mr. Azmy is one of ASGC’s founders, he is also the President and Executive Director of ASGC.
After graduation, Azmy worked for The Arab Contractors in Egypt for twelve years. He came to Dubai in 1986 and started ASGC two years later.
Mr Azmy’s philosophy of work right and not worry about consequences has been the driving mantra of ASGC.
Mr. Azmy was ranked as the 6th most influential person in the UAE construction industry according to the Construction Week Survey of 2017. He graduated from the University of Asyut in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and in 2017 he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Heriot-Watt University in Dubai.
Mohammed Al Sayyah Non-Executive Director
Mr. Al Sayyah is a Non- Executive Director and one of the founding shareholders of ASGC. He supports and facilitates high-level strategic planning and governance, and provides advisory and consultative services.
Prior to his entrepreneurial success, Mr. Al Sayyah served in the banking industry for over 35 years, in roles with HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank, and has held executive management positions with firms such as Gulf & Levant.
He has a particular interest in the development of human capital, including significant involvement in the UAE’s Emiratisation program.
H.E. Hamad Buamim Independent Non-Executive Director
Since 2006, Mr. Buamim has been the President and CEO of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He has been the Secretary General of the Dubai Economic Council, a corporate manager at HSBC, a lecturer of Finance & Banking at the UAE University’s College of Business & Economics and a Senior System Engineer at the DEWA.
His Excellency is a governor of the UAE Central Bank, and is a board member of DP World and Dubai Islamic Bank.
Educated in the US, Mr. Hamad Buamim graduated from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2002, He obtained an MBA degree in Finance from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Iyad Malas Independent Non-Executive Director
Mr. Malas has over 30 years of experience in finance, investment and asset management. He is currently a Partner at Gateway Partners, a private equity firm with a focus on emerging markets. Prior to this role Iyad worked for Majid Al Futtaim group; one of the largest privately owned conglomerates in the region for over a decade, last serving as CEO of MAF Holding. Before this Mr Malas worked in various public and private financial institutions such as the World Bank across Europe, Africa and Asia.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a MBA from George Washington University, USA and a BA from the American University in Lebanon.
Hussein Hachem Independent Non-Executive Director
Hussein Hachem is the Chief Executive Officer at Aramex, one of the leading global logistics and transportation solutions providers, and the first company from the Arab world to go public on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The company is currently listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM: ARMX)
Hussein started his career at Aramex in 1991 in Kuwait and was promoted repeatedly until becoming the CEO of the firm in 2010 playing an instrumental role in the growth and expansion of Aramex operations globally.
Hussein is a member of the Private Investors from Africa (PIA), a business coalition founded in 2001 that aims to leverage private sector experience in Africa to tangibly contribute to the continent’s future. He is also a Fellow of the Middle East Leadership Initiative, a flagship leadership program of The Aspen Institute.
Hussein earned a bachelor's degree from the American University of Beirut, and has undertaken several strategic management and executive education programs, including an Executive Development and Management program at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Bishoy Azmy CEO and Executive Director
Mr. Bishoy Azmy is the CEO of ASGC. He formulates corporate strategy and steers ASGC towards the achievement of its vision. Bishoy started his career in the company 15 years ago as a site engineer moving up the ranks to CEO in 2008.
Mr. Azmy graduated from the American University in Cairo with a B Sc in Construction Engineering. He also holds an EMBA from London Business School, UK and a Masters in International Construction Management from the University of Bath, UK.
Abdul Aziz Mohamed Bin Shafar Vice President and Executive Director
Mr. Bin Shafar is an Executive Director and Vice President at ASGC. He is directing the company to achieve the organizational growth and its strategic objectives.
He has 20 years of experience in civil engineering, contracting and real estate development. He started his career at ASGC and was responsible for the overall supervision of some of ASGC’s most prominent construction projects. He did a two year stint as Project Manager with DIFC, before coming back to the family business to supervise expansion and governance.
Mr. Bin Shafar holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California, United States.
